NATIVE ALASKAN WALRUS IVORY CARVINGS

ANINGAYOU CARVINGS

Another group of Yupik carvers are in the Aningayou family. This family is well-known for their geese and bears although they carve many other animal figures, baleen scrimshaw, walrus mounts and more.  Although their carvings are not strictly made of whale bone but also of walrus ivory and walrus bone, I have included them under the "whale bone carvings" heading since the whale bone adds a tremendous amount character to their work.
